Truth be told, this little party was a bit for me too.
To celebrate my little pumpkin turning four without all the fuss of a commercial location or theme, disposable paper products or party favors. Just a chance to focus on the milestone. To give thanks to God for 4 incredible years and to look forward to many more.First up, here's the birthday girl in all her four year old splendor!
(Love, love, love this sweet picture of the little pumpkin! I'm so glad I insisted we take it as we were heading out the door right before school...even if we were a minute or two late because of it *wink*) I set up this sweet, vintage-inspired table the night before with things I already had at home. I used my beloved pom pom chenille bedspread (yes, even with a few missing pom poms!) and topped it with one of my favorite vintage finds of all times - a hand embroidered bassinet bedskirt. Because the bassinet bedskirt is round with a deep center to fit inside an actual bassinet and drape over the sides, I folded it in half and used a piece of this sweet yellow fabric to anchor the table, topping it off with the dainty rose trim to hide the "seams". The food was so very simple. Just cake and ice cream. An ode to simpler times. Pressed for time, I called on my trusty friend, the good 'ole Kroger Bakery, to come up with the chocolate & pink whipped frosting confection. In keeping with the theme, I topped it with two spring chickens, sweet as can be in their bunny ears and party hat. But wait. The little pumpkin had her heart set on a My Little Pony cake, so last minute we had a switcheroo (we're getting good at those around here!) and scoured her toy bin for a couple of beloved plastic friends that could be easily cleaned off. Hmmm...how did that lalaloopsie make her way atop that cake???
Yes, the little pumpkin has a sneaky side to her too :) "Perfect mama. It's just perfect. I LOVE my cake!" and that is how the ponies & loopsie happily coexisted with their vintage counterparts.
While at Kroger picking up the cake, these bite-size cupcakes caught my eye so I got them too and dolled them up with some sweet printables I already had on hand for the Kite Day party. Oh, and the perfect stand came courtesy of the little pumpkin's play kitchen. Yup, the entire house is fair game when it comes to decorating and party planning :) Store-bought sweets sure do taste better when served on these... Of course it wouldn't be a birthday party without a sweet birthday hat! I pulled out one of my favorite fabrics from my stash and came up with this little pretty for the little pumpkin. This little hat is truly an heirloom. My mom made the yoyo for me and I topped it off with one of my grandma's vintage buttons. So indeed a hat representing four generations...worn by the little pumpkin, made by me with trim by Noonie and vintage accent from my dear grandma!
