for my sweet girl {spring chicken vintage birthday}

Truth be told, this little party was a bit for me too.
To celebrate my little pumpkin turning four without all the fuss of a commercial location or theme, disposable paper products or party favors. Just a chance to focus on the milestone. To give thanks to God for 4 incredible years and to look forward to many more.First up, here's the birthday girl in all her four year old splendor!
(Love, love, love this sweet picture of the little pumpkin! I'm so glad I insisted we take it as we were heading out the door right before school...even if we were a minute or two late because of it *wink*) I set up this sweet, vintage-inspired table the night before with things I already had at home. I used my beloved pom pom chenille bedspread (yes, even with a few missing pom poms!) and topped it with one of my favorite vintage finds of all times - a hand embroidered bassinet bedskirt. Because the bassinet bedskirt is round with a deep center to fit inside an actual bassinet and drape over the sides, I folded it in half and used a piece of this sweet yellow fabric to anchor the table, topping it off with the dainty rose trim to hide the "seams". The food was so very simple. Just cake and ice cream. An ode to simpler times. Pressed for time, I called on my trusty friend, the good 'ole Kroger Bakery, to come up with the chocolate & pink whipped frosting confection. In keeping with the theme, I topped it with two spring chickens, sweet as can be in their bunny ears and party hat. But wait. The little pumpkin had her heart set on a My Little Pony cake, so last minute we had a switcheroo (we're getting good at those around here!) and scoured her toy bin for a couple of beloved plastic friends that could be easily cleaned off. did that lalaloopsie make her way atop that cake???
Yes, the little pumpkin has a sneaky side to her too :) "Perfect mama. It's just perfect. I LOVE my cake!" and that is how the ponies & loopsie happily coexisted with their vintage counterparts.

While at Kroger picking up the cake, these bite-size cupcakes caught my eye so I got them too and dolled them up with some sweet printables I already had on hand for the Kite Day party. Oh, and the perfect stand came courtesy of the little pumpkin's play kitchen. Yup, the entire house is fair game when it comes to decorating and party planning :)
Store-bought sweets sure do taste better when served on these... Of course it wouldn't be a birthday party without a sweet birthday hat! I pulled out one of my favorite fabrics from my stash and came up with this little pretty for the little pumpkin. This little hat is truly an heirloom. My mom made the yoyo for me and I topped it off with one of my grandma's vintage buttons. So indeed a hat representing four generations...worn by the little pumpkin, made by me with trim by Noonie and vintage accent from my dear grandma! Would you like your own special Lulu & Co. keepsake birthday hat? Check my sidebar for details!

So excited to be turning 4!
Can you tell she was eating up being the center of attention??? Check out those hands on her hips - oh my!Sweet wishes all around... The little pumpkin was much too excited to open presents to bother with cake...But Hudson...He LOVES sweets, yes even down to the teeny tiny confetti sprinkles! He won't let a single morsel go to waste! he he he Her excitement was contagious! A Dora Ballet doll! Yippee - it's just what I always wanted! Thank you Noonie & Papa J!More fun goodies from Mimi & Pop, including this sweet placemat.Thank you Mimi & Pop! And thank you, Papaw! And then...the big surprise. Eyes closed a must. Trying sooo hard not to sneak a peek!Eeeeeek! Is it what I think it is???YES! My own princess bike!!!
(a picture really is worth a 1000 words, isn't it?)
Soooo happy! So there you have it. 20 little picture blocks to tell the story of a simple, vintage-inspired homemade party for a sweet four year old little girl who brings sunshine to her mama's heart and to her whole family.Happy 4th Birthday, Grace!
May God continue to bless you each and every day.
We love you more than words can say!
Mama, Daddy, and Hudson

I am so glad you shared more pictures with us!! Your party was precious! I loved all the details. My oldest has the "tablecloth" on her bed along with a fluffy, ruffly, white comforter. I may just steal it for our next party. We also have 3 parties- only we've always done it backwards- our family party ends up being the one the girls pick out at "the store". I think your idea is better. I love the spring chicken theme! Complete cuteness! You will be so glad you have these memories! Your children are very blessed to have such a creative mom who show them how much she loves them by investing herself in them!

Oh Jessica! The birthday table and all the trimmings are just beautiful. You have shown us that the most perfect moments and memories can still come from simple steps - while your beautiful creation for Grace's birthday may not required as much planning as your original idea, the result and the smile on Grace's face shows us it came with just as much love. Happy birthday to little pumpkin Grace and well done you, you super Mum!xo

what a beautiful tablescape! Everything looks just perfect! Did Kroger's really do the icing on that cake??? It's something I would love for my daughter's 1st birthday. Did you have to ask for something special?

Jessica said...

Thank you all for the super sweet comments!!

Hi, Genevieve~ Love your name by the way :)
YES, Kroger's!!! I went the night before and they had a sample one except it was white. I just asked them if they could duplicate it in light pink and they said no problem. It was a chocolate cake with their whipped frosting. Tasted heavenly - my mom & husband preferred it over our other fancier cakes - go figure! Oh, and it was only $12!! Can't beat that!

Thank you so much for the tips! I'm thinking of having the party at the grandparents house and it would definitely make it easier with traveling to have Kroger's make the cake! Genevieve

The cutest Vintage party I've ever seen. It's just adorable. My mother in-law makes my daughter outfits like the one your daughter has on and I was wondering what fabric you used to make it. It's so precious and I love the colors. BTW- you seem like an amazing mom. God Bless you :-)

Jessica said...

Thank you, Angel! I didn't make this outfit - we bought it from Nelle's on etsy!

The fabric for the bodice is South Hampton by Henry Glass. Hope that helps and thank you for the super sweet comment!!
